Day 1

I do not know how long it took, but I do remember being in post-op. My nurse is really funny and really sweet. My husband came in as soon as he was allowed and spent some time with me.

Pretty soon after being able to eat or drink, they sent me off to a room for me in the hospital. In the new room, there were no limitations on visitors.

At this time, I was sitting up talking; the biggest pain I had was stiffness and soreness of my jaw, which made it hard to talk or laugh. Shortly after that, I felt a huge amount of pressure behind my right eye, and my vision in that eye became blurry.

The nurse came in and did hourly neurological checks and stated that my vision appears to be intact and it’s probably swelling from the surgery.

I then developed severe pain at the surgical incision. For this, I had pain medicine and a muscle relaxer given. These things settled down except for the pressure behind my right eye,

Oddly, I was not tired, or it could’ve just been that I was woken up every hour for neurological checks; I barely slept that whole night, maybe for an hour and a half total.

My son did visit me in the hospital that day. He was very scared and didn’t want to sit on the bed with me and didn’t want anyone but his grandma to hold him. I think he thought he was going to get some procedure done at the hospital.

This night went OK. I had trouble looking at screens; I couldn’t look at the TV, and typing on my phone is really hard, so even now I’m using voice-to-text. Because of this, I feel like I’m typing the correct letters, but I keep missing the keys. It’s very annoying. I almost wonder if this is a side effect of one of my seizure medications or damage to my brain.

I did try to paint about six hours after my surgery. I did a strange painting. It was nothing like I usually paint.

Day 8

Day 6

I suppose it’s been long enough for the days to be rolling together. It now seems extra hard for me is to step away from not being the primary caregiver of my toddler. I don’t think this is as much of
